Both have a similar yearly average high (same summer temps, most of all) and close enough record highs/lows. Except though, one is a drier Mediterranean climate and the other is more maritime.
Sydney Olympic Park for having more rain, and presumably more interesting weather (thunderstorms, vivid skies/cloud formations, etc). The weather on the California coast is too dry, too sunny, and too plain for me during the warmer half of the year.
I prefer Long Beach because it has identical summer temperatures to my location, a warm "winter" and it's very dry. Optimal, it's even better than San Diego.
Battle between a C-grade and F-grade pairing. 'Bout the last thing I wanted to see after being awfully full after a buffet meal. Anywhere in metro Sydney by parsecs.
