I don't understand why so many people pay with debit cards.
If I pay for something, it's only ever with cash (i.e., banknotes & coins) or a credit card. And just pay it in full every month. Why let yourself get charged interest? The rewards programs typically make it worthwhile--that's been my experience.
Because it is much easier, not to mention safer than carrying money around. It can be a pain to have to go to a cashpoint too. Debit cards are much better than credit cards, as you are only spending what money you actually have in your account, seems odd that you would prefer to use a credit card over a debit card...
When I was taking PATCO to Center City Philadelphia to work, the machines would dispense dollar coins as change.
(Also could have paid with a credit card at those machines, but not once did I do so in 4 months of working that job.)
Dollar coins are great. Unfortunately, they are not very commonly used here because the one dollar bill remains popular.
I wish they would discontinue the one dollar bill, and the two dollar bill, and do what Canada does and have one and two dollar coins. Also, while we're at it, do what Canada did and cease production of the penny--have merchants round to the nearest five cents.
Odd, was going to post about coins and I see someone has just done so.
Bought some groceries yesterday and got some change, was looking at the nickel and it felt heavier than usual. Turn it around and there was the king on the back, then back to the front to see the date and it was 1937. 80 years in circulation. FYI back then nickels were made of real nickel.

I worked in credit (and debit) card fraud for too long for that to sound appealing! LOL. In the case of fraud, I'd rather have credit card charges taken off (and not have to pay them) versus having to be reimbursed for debit card fraud.

Tbh if you're someone who is broke (but good with money management) credit seems like a better idea. With credit you can pay off everything at the end of the month, which is great if you are living paycheck to paycheck, and need to buy groceries/pay rent ahead of time. In case of debit you are screwed and have to wait until you have physical money to do it, which in some cases means going to the sketchy Payday Loan places

Yup, I had my debit card info stolen in Ica, and it was much more difficult as opposed to as if I had a credit card

I don't think it's actually safer. But the risk of monetary loss may be greater. Well, I'm never carrying more cash than I can afford to lose, honestly, in such an event. So this doesn't concern me too much.

Maybe it's different in the US, but in the UK you are more likely to get credit card fraud & either are just as easy (or difficult) to be refunded. Besides it is increasingly more dangerous to withdraw money from cashpoints as criminals attach skimming devices to them which clones your card, while a pinhole camera, or someone watching you, gets your PIN number...
