The record is 18°F set back in 2002. The coldest temp at LaGuardia was 20°F that winter, zone 9a.

Last winter was mild but like you we had zone busting cold. I had a 7a winter, Central Park (7b) dipped to zone 6b, which is something that many thought wouldn't happen again, even under a perfect setup it's so difficult to go anywhere near 0°F.

Orange lines are the Upper level heights so we have a NW flow type 18,000 feet up.

Thin black lines are the surface pressures. We have a very strong Canadian High which is sending a northerly flow at the surface for us.

Surface Map

This setup is impressive to see after all of the recent warmth, these transient cold shots still continue. I'm hoping we don't get another one quite as potent as this one though.

When we get high pressure my little wx station goes off the rails, it has the pressure sitting at 1044 mbar lol.

Yeah, up and down. Warm mid week then cold next weekend again but I agree, I don't think we'll see this again till next winter.

lol, yeah, there should be a way to adjust the pressure reading. I have mine to read -2mb lower all the time and seems to be right.

It's only 1044mb in Canada under the High but there's some 1040s SW of us so not that far off.

I just looked at mine and says max of 1038. Islip currently 1036. Bridgeport 1037.

Current Pressures.

February was fairly dry here, but there was one day with a strong thunderstorm that gave me 2 inches of rain. I had 2.46 inches total for the month.

The latest NWS forecast shows over 2 inches this week here.

Here's what NAM says for soil temps Surface to 4" down Wednesday afternoon.

Interesting to see Kentucky since it will be in the 50s & 60s next 3 days. Would think soil temp would be higher than 40s there.

Well unfortunately we didn't get anywhere near the forecast -2 F/-19 C. Low was 10 F/-12 C and currently up to 17 F/-8 C...still no complaints though, I'll take whatever cold I can get at this point of the year. I almost appreciate and enjoy cold more in March and April than I do during fall and winter lol.
