Looks like the short-term climate is changing but not the way people thought: Hotter, drier summers with colder, snowier winters. I could live with that.

Official Weather Station and Google don't match actually. Neither does Accuweather.

Official Weather Station: -2.4℃ at 8:48 am

Google: +1℃ for Göle now
Accuweather: -7℃ for Göle now

I think winters are still warming overall. It's just that people notice colder than normal winters more than milder than normal winters. Same with summer heat. 2014 and 2015 were fairly tame summers for much of the east, and the winters of 2015-16 and 2016-17 were fairly mild, for example.

A look at this mornings 5000' temps and upper height pattern

While the Polar Vortex is staying up there, All that pink (-10C & colder) is building up over Canada. And we'll have to see if it starts dipping into the U.S for some arctic outbreaks. Montana is already feeling a piece of it.

Otherwise we have pretty much a warm zonal flow across the country with no defined trough/ridge pattern.

Actually, there is a trough in the PacNW down to the Pacific, sorry. Forgot to outline it.

^^^^^^^^^^

jgdusa,Perhaps you should get a life, instead of picking fights with other CD members.

By the way, in the Indianapolis area at least, there have been 4 winters since the winter of 1997-1998 that have been warm enough to make the top 10 warmest winters on modern record, (the winter of 2016-2017 was a top 10 warmest winter) so with that in mind, I would say that based on that bit of statistical data by itself, that the climate has been generally getting warmer in Indianapolis since the year 1998.
