Snowing hard here. We actually cracked 32° for the first time in 2018, and in 15 days. Definitely an impressive stretch, but didn't even crack the top 10 for us. 33 days is our record, and many in the 20s.

Upper 20s feels so new. Wow. 2 layers seems too much. . I don't think we'll see single digits anymore this winter here.

8:45am-12:45pm Loop.

Interesting to see metars showing drizzle in Kentucky but I see Ice reports. Air temp in mid 30s.. Reports saying numerous accidents due to icy roads.

Looks like mixing in Allentown. Snow is coming. Lets see how much I get from this little system.

Lol, WTF is the Euro high off of, Cocaine???!! The latest model cycle at 12z today is showing the potential of a massive snowstorm for the Indianapolis area with many areas possibly seeing over a foot of snowfall if the Euro Model forecast verifies.

My backyard, is 4.8° for the month! I haven't had a daily low yet in 2018 above 0°! (Today will obviously break this)

Mid 30s right now. Slushy out there. Snow is starting to melt. Who knows how much will melt today. Highs above freezing tomorrow and Wednesday but then snowstorm expected Thursday. Accuweather says 6-10 inches! I hope it doesn't disappoint! I've been snowthirsty all season!

This cold blast will go down in the record books alongside other legendary ones such as 89 and 85. Many all time records smashed with raleigh smashing its longest stretch below freezing by 2 whole days! We busted 2 hardiness zones lower and are very likely to finish jan in the top 5 if not 3 coldest. The temp departure so far is -20 with this week being in the top 5 coldest ever i believe, and coldest first week of jan ever.... if temps only hugged average rest of month we would still finish in top 5 coldest ever....

Parts of nc busted 3 hardiness zones lower and went subzero for their 3rd time in history. Greenville for instance has only gone subzero twice in 120 year record and last night was the third time ever when they tied their all time record low... for many out east this was the coldest week in living memory...

The damage done by this cold blast is immense with thousands of pipe bursts, heaters breaking down, car accidents and loss of life... the impact on the economy was fairly big with many people out of work for days now. With the upcoming massive heating bill and repairs for some things will be tight...

The impact on wildlife was also huge with thousands of fish being stunned by the cold... also many native wild vegetation was likely damaged or outright killed by this cold blast...

I wish we could find economic impacts of cold blast like these readily, i know they made one for 1985...

While temps will average slightly above average in the short range, it seems in the medium range a masisve poleward ridge will send the NAO negative and mean a cold blast next week... one thing that has also been strong is that western atlantic ridge, if it wouldnt keep getting kicked off by cold blasts we would be pretty warm as evidenced by the 70s that will inundate eastern nc and sc late this week.

No records were mashed in my area. The super freezes of the 80's were much colder. Just goes to show the days are coming we won't even break into the 40's within 30 years.
