Polar vortex / arctic air happens every year around here. Nothing new. I don’t think there has been one winter where there was not one arctic air mass that descended over the eastern U.S. Even the mildest winters had at least a few arctic air invasions. I am in my 40’s BTW and have lived in the NE for most of my life.
Eastern NC experiencing all time record cold... wtf... why is the northeast warmer than eastern nc despite a snowpack and longer nights... why? Wtf is happening? Only a few times in history have many of these spots dropped below 5 or even 10... the consequences of this cold i cant even fit in a post on here... they have busted 4 hardiness zones in many spots...
This is why I love global warming. We're 25 degrees below normal considering the past 100 years. If not for global warming, we'd probably 30-40 below normal.

This is one of the coldest airmasses since 1985 for temps and longevity. Where I live it hasn't been this cold for this long since I moved here in 1996. 1989 was the last time this area has had single digit temps for multiple night in a row and even then it was only for 2 nights. We are looking at 4 nights in a row.
