Second day in a row where snow turns to cold rain in the morning, so we have cold rain and 2c right now, and intense rain at that. I was hoping for substantial snow before the big dry cold snap next week but not sure it's gonna happen. Couple of centimeters at most.
Cold rain is pretty bad.
At least the 2017 drought is being wiped out progressively.

Not 1963, but current output looks almost identical to 1987. The Met Office show daytime temperatures of freezing for my location next week. That isn't normal, not for any time of year let alone approaching meteorological spring. It's been 3 years since we last had a maximum temperature below freezing.
As I have said countless times, [mod cut]. The UK was bound to get another severe cold spell again and next week could well be it.
A cold spell yes, out of the ordinary? No I don't think so, 'beast from the east' a bit OTT if you ask me, something that happens every 3 years is not that unusual. If we are about to descend into 3 months of E. European or North American type winter cold (like in 63) then I think the headlines would be more appropriate. I bet there is a similar reaction when we get the (inevitable) week long heatwave in the Summer but again unless we get a Summer like 76 it will be blown all out of proportion.

1963 was a real killer for us too. Horrible winter. We both get hit with -NAO the same way.

The Met Office have released a weather warning, saying some communities could be cut off, power could be cut off and even mobile phone services could be affected.
A new coin for this winter... The Beast From The East.. Ironically.. there is a potential snowstorm around the 2nd in Northeast U.S and this "beast" might be a reason New England gets screwed out of it.
Anyway --- nice long blog with maps here regarding this Europe Blast.
