The city of İzmit had 42 mm rainfall yesterday while the ski resort which is only 25 km away from the city had 114.9 mm rainfall ( at an elevation of 1320 metres).
No wonder the ski resort gets too much snow depth in winter. It takes a lot of precipitation.
2.5 meters of snow accumulation had occured in the ski resort in January 2017. This January, it was below 2 metres.

No wonder you live in Austin Texas lol, summer is one of the driest seasons there anyway, no?
There's a lot of troughing/weakness that sets up over the Midwest/Eastern US during summer. That disrupts the tropical moisture that would otherwise move west to Texas.
Eurasia has a strong monsoon to prevent such issues. The Southern Hemisphere continents have more stable poles that prevent such jetstream dips.

We are at 92F in Indy with a heat index of 101F. A mere 100 miles to the north, the South Bend area has had rain much of the day and are at a comfortable 72F and Fort Wayne is at 76F. Check out this temperature map from Fort Wayne. Can you tell where it has been raining much of the day?
A 29c low forecast on Saturday night. About as ugly as it gets in these parts. Luckily I will not be around.
