Developing situation east of Vancouver tonight. Multiple highways closed because of flooding and landslides. Reports of cars washed off the roads, people on the roofs of their cars needing rescue, water rising. Still another 75-150 mm of rain possible for that area. Not good.
Wow, that is awful.
The Skagit is now forecast to be two feet above its all-time crest at Mount Vernon. This is a dire situation for NW Washington and SW BC.
We had our first snowflakes of the season in Indianapolis overnight Friday night into early Saturday morning but nothing stuck to the ground. Then yesterday morning we had our first accumulating snow of the season! Not much, a half inch to an inch most areas, but it snowed for much of the morning, including a couple heavier bursts. It all melted by mid-afternoon, though. This week, a crazy roller coaster of temperatures. Today's high will be in the upper 30s. Tomorrow we'll hit 60, then 65 on Wednesday, before back in the lower 40s Thursday and to finish out the week.
It's pretty grim in the Fraser River valley this morning: flooding, landslides, people trapped. Ongoing moderate to heavy rain this morning followed by gale-force winds this afternoon adding insult to injury. Major and extended power outages likely starting this afternoon.

I'm not buying anything yet regarding arctic air in the eastern US for the end of November. The GFS has not shown any significant arctic air invasion. There will be colder air building upstream in Canada, but the active Pacific storm track is keeping it at bay, another very annoying La Nina component.
Yesterday's total was 2.78" and there's been 1.6" today so far. 5.26" total in the past 48 hours. It's very windy too, with gusts up to 54 mph.
There's lots of urban and creek flooding around town today, and things are really bad out in smaller towns like Sumas. I-5 is closed south of here near Nulle Road, I think due to a rock/mudslide.
Both highways connecting Victoria to the rest of Vancouver Island are now closed because of flooding. All highways east of Vancouver are also closed and as the photo below shows the most-travelled highway has actually been destroyed. I've heard the rail lines east of Vancouver are now also closed.
The only connection between Vancouver and the rest of Canada is now the Sea-to-Sky Highway, a narrow mountain road that goes through Whistler.
All I can say is that it's a good thing most of our food comes from the USA.
Seattle got 0.9" yesterday and didn't feel super wet. Today has been mostly windy. There have been a lot worse storms.
