Monthly summaries for this October at ORD, Midway airport and IKK near me
My nearest station outside Chicago had an average high of 20.1C. Average low of 10.9C and a Mean of 15.5C. Max high was 30.C, lowest max was 11.1C, highest minimum was 21.1C lowest minimum was 2.2C
Another well above long term average month for both max and min temps at Darwin Airport. Rainfall totals well below average, although as per usual at this time of the year, it really is the luck of the draw if one happens to be under a thunderstorm somewhere in the Top End.
The mean max temp of 34.5c is the second highest in 80 years of records, behind the 2009 mean max of 34.8c. We had 10 days exceed 35c, with another 2 (including today) managing 34.9c. The 2nd Oct failed to exceed 30c max temp, which has happened only 3 times since 2000, and 21 times since 1941.
Mean min October temps broke an 80 year record with 26.6c being 1.7c above the averages since 1941. Also 3 days of the month equalled or exceeded the previous highest minimum temp for October. Each morning 20th-22nd recorded 29c, 28.8c and 28.8c..... really tested my 'I don't need aircon at night' mantra....
The 'build-up' rainfall for the Airport and the Northern Suburbs has been way below expectations. The Airport clocked 23mm on the 2nd and 3rd of the month and only 0.2mm since. Storms and thunder in the distance most afternoons, but some other areas are getting the rain, not us long suffering northern suburbs residents.
The median rainfall for Oct is about 52mm, so the total is less than half the median. The mean Oct rainfall is 70.2mm. It really is a dud season ( so far ) when Sept rainfall ( 26.2mm ) exceeds October.
Worst ever and close to 2017-18-19 20 on crazy above normal temps. I will have to run the figs and see if we tied 2020.
No rain at all until the very end of the month and bailed it out at around 1.20". No tropical weather at all around Cuba so that was a first thanks to a record strong La Nina.
October 2021 - numbers are temperature in Celsius unless otherwise stated, normal 1991-2020.
