Its so nice to see seasonal temps again. Highs in the 50s and lows in the 40s and upper 30s.

This past September was another record hot month here. Mean temp at the airport of 83.4F beat the old record by 0.4F. My PWS was a bit cooler with a mean of 80.6F. There were some storms the first part of September but dry conditions dominated the rest of the month. Exceptional drought conditions have developed over a large part of Louisiana.

October started off hot but cooler, fall-like conditions have arrived today. 72F and breezy as of 1:40 PM. Forecast low of 47F tonight! Haven't been below 60F since May.

Current drought monitor map...

Fortunately looking like wetter conditions could be coming later in the month. Also I think we're done with record-breaking heat. Hoping a typical El Nino pattern develops soon.

I don't buy that green over FL anymore than the man in the moon. I would love for it to be right but a whole year of no rain has been a nitemare with record heat. Really been 4 years of dry weather for my area on the coast as a west flow just won't go away in the summer.

I already miss summer/warm temps and we got a LONG way to go until the consistent warmth returns.

At least time moves pretty fast and in less then 6 months we start heading back into Spring.

NOLA's been having salt water intrusion issues due to the drought. The US corps of engineers has been spending a lot of money keeping that city alive.

I've been below 60 F a few times this season so far, but tonight will be my first seasonal low below 50 F/10 C. Looking forward to it!

I was out harvesting the ripe tomatoes, figs, tomatillos and couple others this afternoon since the warmth is over. I can't say that I was enjoying the 7C/45F and rain we were getting around 4-6pm... I'll still be trying to take advantage of the last few days in the 12-16C range though - we should still get a few of those in the next 4-5 weeks.

I suppose April 7 is not bad. Still higher chance of snow and frost then than now though. But we usually get a warm day or two some time between mid March and mid April to give us a taste of what's to come.

Until then, I'll have to settle with indoor gardening, scenic winter landscapes and maybe see if I can squeeze in a little trip to some southern shores.

Staying cooling and dry for the next few days then becoming wet for the second half of the week temps might spike briefly here in the far south suburbs on Thursday but generally looking cool for the foreseeable future.
