Wasn't it like 40C for a week there? That's insane...our extreme maximum of 46.2C occured on February 12th 1992. Since then I've seen it get as high as 44C, I believe. Each year in WA the extreme highest is usually just below 50C, although 50C is uncommon.
Not quite a week, but Melbourne had 3 days in a row of 43.4c, 44.3c, 45.1c while Avalon had 41.9c, 45.8c, 45.0c on the same days.

There must be somewhere in Aus that touches 50C atleast once every year. The distribution of weather stations in the Pilbara, Gascoyne and Kimberleys is extremely sparse so we cannot be sure what sort of extreme temps can really occur.

For years I knew the extreme highest as 53.1C in Cloncurry, Queensland, in the 1880s...sorry I'm too lazy to check up on that. Since then I believe the extreme highest was like 51.6C. I would think it probably hits 50C at least somewhere in WA, I see 50C sometimes in summer, but as you say the stations are so sparse.

The Cloncurry record has long been dismissed or held in huge doubt becase the equipmment used at the time was of an non-standard instrument and also was not verified. The current accepted record is the 50.7oC on January 2nd, 1960 at Oodanatta, South Australia.

Yes I meant to say it had been dismissed. Wow, only 50.7C? I remember it got to 50. something last December somewhere up north. It's also got to over 50C in Eucla.

Today should see Lincoln beat its highest 2009 temperature of 19.3c/66.7f.

We GOTTA reach 20c this april, this is our last chance, please pray and keep your fingers crossed that we DO IT!!!!!

Chances are looking slim as these blasted clouds keep appearing out of nowhere and ruining it!

We never get a summer though! Might as well have it now considering that our average high in July is about 68f.

Are you north, I haven't looked at my Atlas (I still use one of those)! I've been to England a few times (3, I guess) in Sept. and I lucked out, its always been great (but then ideal temp to me is 70"s)!

I've only visited London and south and never in Spring. I love traveling in the Fall, never in summer because I don't want to travel when families do.
