Synopsis: Very dry climate; intense swings between daytime and nighttime temperature; intense day-to-day variations in temperature (e.g. a cold spell with lows in the -20s might be one week, a warm-up with temperatures in the 60's and even 70's might follow in the winter). Subject to extreme cold (and also spring-like warmth) in the winter, and to very hot weather in the summer. Rainfall is limited though snow can fall any time between October and May, and on rare occasions, even in June and September. 50% growing season May 20 to September 25; 90% growing season, June 1 to September 10.
I choose "D". Dryer Summers with average highs in the upper 70's to low 80's, average lows in the 60's. Wetter winters with the average high in Jan/Feb about 30 and average lows around 10; 70" - 120" of snowfall. Spring days that shower a bit either morning or evening and average highs in the 60's Average lows in the lower 40's. Falls with average highs in the upper 60's and lows in the lower 40's again and semi-dry.
I voted B as it looks like a colder version of NYC climate. I like that you get some variety but no extreme temps.
I guess the point of the poll is to see that, given an annual average temperature (which may not be as high as you want), how would you want to distribute it? In other words, if you couldn't have year-round summer (as is the case for most people), what would you settle for?
For me, if the winter is going to be cold, it might as well be cold enough for skiing (but not colder!). And if summer is going to be warm, it might as well be warm enough to go to the beach (but not hotter!).
None of them really as I would like them to be warmer all year round... but if I had to choose, I'd probably choose A just because there is less variation in the weather. I like places where the weather is constant...
