Thanks Rusty! I will have to check out Tripadvisor. I am afraid that when we go with our parrot and SIX cats that the hotels will turn us away.

I was leaning toward route 81 through South Carolina then over to I 95 then the Florida Turnpike to get to the W. Indiantown Road exit.

I have heard that 81 is a nice ride down and I no several people who go out of their way from the north east to take it. But when we were moving down, we knew we would not be stopping and emptying the car of all our stuff we did not trust with the movers only to load it once again in the AM, so we took the most direct trip down. With 6 cats and a parrot I don't think you will want to be stopping over night either.

Our trip was fast food, short stops for some sleep, etc.... and I think when you look the things over in your car you may decide on the same type of trip. it's really not that bad, we jut switched driver's ever half tank of gas and started all over again. 26 hours later we were here and got to unload the car and go out for a sit down meal and some shopping.

I have several web sites for PBC that you might have or perhaps would like. They offer insight on your move down, what you are required to do, how to file for the Homestead Exemption, etc....

The only sad part of your move down, is you still have to file taxes with the Welfare State of NY for the 2015 tax year, for they still want a piece of your pie....

PS - I love the ride you have on your Profile Picture!!! How fast does it go???

CC Girl: Just tell the motels you have 1 cat. Look for motels where you can park in front of your room. Tell them you have a nervous cat and want to be in the back where it's quiet. Please don't tell them about all the cats and the parrot! Then just don't leave the room--if you do make it really quick or have 1 person stay in the room to keep everyone quiet and calm. I did it this time with 3 cats, but 10 years ago, I did it with 5 cats and 2 dogs. I just told the motel I about the dogs.

Bwaaaaaaaahahaha rusty, I have three brooms I am currently working with

Looking at Tripadvisor it appears you can take 285 around DC and then it's a straight shot down.

I've been stalking things all PBC for two years now. We will be 'renting' until mom deeds the place over to me.

I will have to pay taxes here from January until we actually leave. No big deal. DH is retired and I only take a small salary from the business. Will still have to pay property taxes until we sell, though. Whatever.

I will have to stop at one point, possibly two, as I am the only driver. DH has a bad hip and if he gets a sciatica attack or leg cramps he could lose control of the vehicle.

Dog, I've heard it's best just to say you have two and leave it at that. If they surcharge me I won't care. Dh will guard the flock if I have to leave. I am planning on getting adjoining rooms, one for us and one for the cats.
