We're originally from NY/NJ and have been living in South Florida for the past 4 years. We've had varying experiences when it comes to the fact that we are an interracial couple with 2 little children - East Delray Beach seemed the most welcoming and friendly where we lived first, Deerfield Beach we may have gotten an odd look or two (where we have family), and finally Wellington where we've lived the past 2 years. We love Wellington and find it comforting in terms of its diversity and we've gotten no strange looks at all. Our son has excelled in a great martial arts program here and we were looking forward to kindergarten at Equestrian Trails elementary next year until...

I moved jobs from East Boca to Juno Beach and we have been considering moving there to be closer since I have a 30 minute - 1 hour commute right now depending on traffic. I've heard great things about Jupiter schools and housing (although I'm not sure if we could rent a 2500 sq foot home for under $2k in Jupiter) but I can't get a read on how an interracial family would be viewed. I've looked at ads for different preschools for my younger one and am not seeing any minorities in their pictures of the children who attend on their websites. I've heard about Egret Landing but it sounds affluent and almost exclusive (I may have the completely wrong impression) and am curious about how we would be received if we rented/bought a house there and put my children in Lighthouse Elementary or even somewhere else like Jupiter Farms. Are these tight-knit communities exclusive or inclusive?

If anyone has any insight on this, I'd be very appreciative.

I've spent a great deal of time in both Juno Beach and Jupiter. JB is a relatively small town, I would characterize it as older generation, 55+ and so on, but not exclusively. Jupiter would be more my idea of a family-minded town, very good schools, depending on the area. Egret Landing is very nice, and very boat friendly, which is why I know about it.

I think in most suburban area these days people are people. I wouldn't worry about it.

I really don't think it should be a problem, especially in town. I don't think the mentality of North County (PBG, Jupiter, Juno) families vs. Wellington families should be that different.

Wellington has to be like 90% white and has a lot of Republicans, if you feel comfortable there then I think you'd feel comfortable in any upper middle class part of PBC. Only problem might be older people who are more likely to be racist.

I am Irish, Husband Native American and Children Italian and Asian and we live in Jupiter and LOVE it. Trust me if your comfortable in Wellington you will love it here. People outstanding and schools good. Juno Beach is lovely but small and a bit isolated, in Jupiter you can still be at the beach in minutes and so much to do. Hope this helped.

Thanks so much for the replies! I actually visited a preschool yesterday in Palm Beach Gardens and saw that there was plenty of diversity so not a problem there.

ReniHope, how old are your children? I'm looking for highly rated preschools/day cares for my 4-year-old who will be entering VPK in the fall and my younger who is 18 months... I can't find many web reviews for this area for some reason... I did see one review for Holy Christian Lutheran Church preschool but since we're nondenominational, I just don't feel comfortable with a Christian-based curriculum.

Thanks!

We are considering Jupiter or Boca, specifically Jupiter Community HS or Dwyer vs. Spanish River in Boca. We have an Asian highschooler and wonder how she would be welcomed to either school. We looked at Abacoa for rentals and would like to know your thoughts about this planned community. There doesn't appear to be much diversity in Jupiter from the demographics but the HS for 11th and 12th grades is the #1 priority. We had been leaning towards Boca/Delray but didn't think we could find a a suitable rental in the Sp. River district.
