For those who want to move here, barring family members who don’t want to move, what is stopping you from moving down to Boca or WPB? What's the biggest obstacle?

Thanks for the reply. I hear a lot about that... I guess it's something to think about.

I recently left the WPB area, but for many it will probably fall on why I left, my career. Careers, jobs or quality of these two and/or if they will pay a sustainable wage to live in the area, which has a high cost of living, will often be the deciding factor on relocating to the area for many, at least I hope so for their sake.

I agree, it started to get expensive in 2000 or so and then shot up fast during the boom, prior to that say the mid 90's, you could buy a new construction 3/2/2 CBS with a barrel tile roof house in several areas of Palm Beach County for $125K.

Around 2000, houses like this were breaking the $200K mark, then homes became more affordable when the bubble popped, but everything else in terms of the cost of living rose and job losses hit hard, many companies had salary freezes, no raises including one I worked for, the whole people who paid too much for homes were paying more for taxes not that they were not high enough as it was.

The ones that wanted to buy did not meet the criteria or did not have the huge down-payment or job stability to buy, then by the time they did recoup the market was back up again.

Seeing the median rent in West Palm Beach area is around $1,600.00/month, you are screwed either way when it comes to housing.

1) worried about finding good friends;
2) worried that the summer heat might be too much to handle;
3) worried about work. Good paying jobs are limited in South, FL.

I am a recruiter in Orlando and it's crazy the amount of resumes I come across on a daily basis from people in the West Palm/Boca area. When I ask them why they want to leave it's always because of the price of housing.

Does not surprise me at all, I did not look in Orlando when I was preparing for a change in my career, personal preference did not want to move there. I pretty much made a decision to leave the state all together after seeing limited options in general.
