Hi all,

I am looking at a cottage on 45th and Broadway for a 3 month rental this summer. Unfortunately, I am not located in FL, and have never lived in WPB, so I am unfamiliar with this area. I seem to remember some comments about it not being great. I am fine with run down or not fantastic, but not dangerous.

I am primarily concerned with crime, but also with traffic. The cats are coming with me, and I don't want them to get squished.

What do all of you locals think?

Thanks so much!

If you're close to the water, it's alright, but yes, the area right outside of the good part can be pretty sketch. If it's ON 45th and Broadway, I would not recommend it. 45th street is very large, main road for most of its length, , and broadway is US-1 with lots of traffic, but 45th street east of broadway there is less traffic. If you can do elsewhere in WPB, or at least deeper into the Northwood neighborhoods, then that is better.

Don't have any specific statistics but it's historically been known as a higher crime area. East of Broadway is better than the west side, in terms of aesthetics.

45th and Broadway is also a well trafficked intersection so I would be concerned about the cats....

Thanks you guys! It is so nice not to have to just risk it and be horrified when I get there.

I have another lead in the area around Forest Hill and Parker (by the WPB golf course). It's on a cul de sac. Better, right?

You can also google "street view" an area to see if it's somewhere you think you'd be comfortable.

How great is "street view"?! i love it. I would love to use it more for this, but I rarely have an exact address.

I am surprised at how many people won't consider a 3 month term. Seems like it should be more attractive in Florida, during the summer months, during a massive economic meltdown.

But I am sure we will find something....eventually.

How are you trying to find your listings? Craigslist has a "temporary/short term" section. Also, in the regular rental section I know there are tons of private owned cottages and carriage houses in my neighborhood and other WPB neighborhoods. Wouldn't hurt to send out inquiries to some to see if they'd take a summer rental.

Yeah, that is exactly what I am doing. We are trying to keep it at or under 1100/ month, for mid-May to mid-August. If we could do 6 months it would be no problem, or if we had 2000/month.

So far the response to my many emails is "3 months is not worth it for me".
