I noticed my '95 honda oddessy doesn't like to go over 55 on some of the very steep hills in WV on I68 especially. I can put the gas to the metal and.. nothing! lol. I know I'll have to replace my car eventually, maybe get front wheel or all wheel drive for one.
What kind of car do you have and how well does it serve you on the mountain roads? Is yours good for gas mileage or climbing the mountain hills? I heard someone mention in the forum previously that the salting of the roads is a problem for the frame? anyway...
I was just curious what you all drive, I know they probably aren't a clunker like mine but if your car/truck works well for you in the mountainous terrain I might get a used version of it next time I buy. Basically just bored and felt like asking.
I had a Subaru Legacy wagon with a 2.2L and it was great in the snow, good on gas and climbed hills like a scalded dog. It was a 5 spd though.. Great car. It had 175K miles when I sold it to my friend and he uses it in daily (in Hampshire County WV).
I have an black 05 VW Jetta... and I love it! It hugs the pavement, I love turns, especually inclined ones!!! ha ha It also has plenty of power to speed and pass cars when I need to. Even though it never snows in Huntington, which is where I am most of the time. It does snow in Elkins, and my car is front wheel drive and it goes great in the snow as well
Sarah that steep hill on I-68 is a 9% grade...pump the tires up to 35 lbs and use midgrade gas...clean the airfilter and see what happens. I have a Chrysler mini van that we use when driving to Savannah...With premium gas and 45 lbs of air in the tires I got 39.6 mpg on the return trip in August...cannot get it to go to 40 mpg...but I had a Honda Prelude that would do 44 and 45 mpg consistenly on the trip back from Colorado Springs. That was eastward with the wind off the Rockies at our back. Have your sweety do a spark plug job on that old car and it will quit coughing...
I drive a paid for clatter trap Hyundai.
Gets 27 mpg, since all I do is sit in Atlanta traffic, plus being an old clatter trap Hyundai, I don't have to worry about being car jacked on the way to work.
If I was back home I would have a front wheel drive vehicle, new and nice, knowing I can keep it as such.

We drove to my wife's parents in Estes Park CO in a Jeep Grand Cherokee V-8 Quadratrac a few years ago... We went the northern route and the best mileage I got was 18mpg while drafting 10ft. behind a semi in Nebraska!
