Just came back from a trip to the Endless Mountain Range of Pa. Beautiful. Tioga and Potter counties had gorgeous hills and valleys. The grand canyon of Pa. was breathtaking.
I'm wondering, how do the hills of W.V. compare?

Think of the 'Red Rock areas of Colorado covered with gray and green moss and you will see Seneca..

the Cascades dripping with rain make me recall Audra and Cathedral...

and if the Sierras had a sprinkling of oak with that ponderosa pine I would believe I was in the hollows of Allegheny Front...

What are our mountains like?..well, for starters...they are simply like, no others...

The hills of West Virginia are along the Ohio River. What you want to see are the Mountains.
  • Blackwater Canyon and Dolly Sods Wilderness, Tucker County
  • Shavers Fork of the Cheat River, Randolph & Pocahontas counties
  • Greenbrier River Valley, Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties
  • Cranberry Wilderness & Williams River
  • New River Gorge, Sandstone to Gauley Bridge

Ask me in about a month.

Then PA will seem small.

In between Blackwater and Dolly Sods, hang a right and go to the top of Spruce Knob, the highest point in WV. Then, after you get back down from there, Seneca Rocks is just past the intersection, then head for Dolly Sods.

Something to be aware of:
When visiting Spruce Knob, Dolly Sods, or Bahre Rocks, the weather at the top can be drastically different than down on the highways. One year, the weather at Seneca Rocks was partly cloudy and around 50 degrees. Halfway up to Spruce Knob we ran into snow that kept getting heavier as we ascended the mountain. At the top, it was a blizzard, a complete white-out. The wind was so stiff, it pushed us across the icy parking lot. At Bahre Rocks, the wind chill sapped the camcorder battery in 30 seconds.

Extra gorgeous pic. You should have that blown up and hang on your wall. Have you submitted it somewhere for a contest - there must be some somewhere.

If you want to see some beautiful mountains. You need to visit the Mountain State Forest Festival in Elkins this year. It runs for about a week or so at the begining of October. It is the largest festival in the state and the drive to Elkins alone will be worth the trip. Seeing all the different colors on the mountains.

Thanks! I've posted it around the net so many times, I've probably lost copyrights by now.

You're in luck, 2-R. You cannot lose a copyright.

You can sell it, or assign it to someone else, or you can license the use of your image. But publishing it, even widely, does not cause you to lose the copyright.

You're probably thinking of trademarks, where you can lose your exclusive rights if you don't keep a rein on unauthorized use. Examples include kleenex and xerox.

Thanks for that info snorpus, that's good to know. Now, off to find a contest.
