For jobs and healthcare services, the larger cities in WV are where you'd probably want to look. Charleston and Huntington each have about 50,000 residents and Parkersburg, Morgantown and Wheeling each have about 30,000 residents. You can look over some info on these areas and see which one may suit you best. If there's anything in particular you are looking for in terms of needs, wants, etc. make those known and people will be able to help you more. Huntington was listed by Forbes as having the best cost of living in the nation among larger MSAs just to give you that little bit of info. There's also a good mix of things for kids to do here as well. Here are some links to info and pictures of each of the cities just to give you an idea of what they look like. Hope this helps.

I live in Morgantown. It is nice here. What are you looking for? How old are your children? If you list what types of things you are looking for would help get you more into the right area.

I am from Morgantown and it is a GREAT area; however, the cost of living there is a bit high in comparison to the rest of the State. Nonetheless, it's a lot less expensive then California! Good luck!

Are you looking for large town or small town? Hills or mountains? Privacy or city setting?

I'm just going to spout of some towns and you can check them out..

My hometown of Elkins, WV

//www.city-data.com/city/Elkins-West-Virginia.html

- Some great schools!! including Midland district, we have great pre school and Montessori schools as well. A lot of new construction going on, close proximity to major resort areas of WV. Small town setting that offers the things larger towns and cities offer.

Welcome to the Heart of West Virginia

Elkins, West Virginia

Martinsburg, WV

//www.city-data.com/city/Martin...-Virginia.html

-In the eastern panhandle. The area is BOOMING, adding thousands of new residents each year, with many of them working in DC. If you want to be on the fringes of an urban area I would go with Martinsburg. A good school district is Hegesville.

Charleston (Our capital)

//www.city-data.com/city/Charle...-Virginia.html

A larger town with a metro population around 300,000. I'm not too familiar with the school districts, and which ones to avoid and go after. I've heard anything on Corridor G is a good area.

These are just a few... browse the threads and look the the town and city pages to see what may interest you. Also do some google searches on the towns you're interested.

Many of the welfare programs will get you into training for medical jobs instantly...WVU (Morgantown) and Fairmont State College in Fairmont have day care...the job training is free and a commitment is made to work for the institution for several years as a payback...job security...you will need a dependable vehicle in Wv...IT is NOT a place for walking...

If your guy is an ex-convict...he won't last long or like it here...police on every block...very high security area...

I have heard so many people say West Virginia was a God-send to them. Yes we have a lower crime rate, and a much lower cost of living than CA. I would actually suggest moving to Fairmont, WV. It is a city that is a little run down, but very good for starting out. It has a lot of civic organizations, and has some good starter Jobs. It's also not far from the Metro of Morgantown and the huge economic growth.

I will tell you as a former resident of Fairmont that it will drive you out sooner or later. The town is good to get your feet, but don't stay there for too long. I lived there for 5 years, now moved to Morgantown and am going to WVU. Much happier here, but it's more expensive here. Jobs are pretty easy to find in both towns. On the whole, morgantown jobs pay more, even customer service jobs.

SAC,
Two things to note: the original post is about 3 months old, and the OP never responded beyond the first posting.
