Buckle your seat belt - looks like it's going to be a rough ride.
A rough coal war is possibly/probably on the horizon.

Obama has named Carol Browner as his energy "czar".
First off, the connotations related to the title czar somewhat scare me.

Looks like she will be coordinating the agencies that determine energy and environmental policies, especially issues of climate change. Agencies may include the EPA and the Transportation, Energy and Interior departments. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=6438298

When defending tough new regulations, she frequently has argued that businesses can find ways to meet tougher standards without undue costs. http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2008/12/10/ap5806879.html

Here's her bio on the EPA website: Carol M. Browner | EPA History | US EPA (http://www.epa.gov/history/admin/agency/browner.htm - broken link)

Obama has said he wants to spend $150 billion over 10 years to cut greenhouse-gas emissions and create millions of jobs in a new “green” energy economy. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601072&sid=a1T31BGhDxT8&refer=energy

My question is ....

Does WV have to be famous for coal?

Yes coal is dirty and coal mining is a dangerous job.

Why can't we become known and famous for our green energy and create green energy jobs for West Virginians, etc?

"We're all created equal, but some are more equal than others" [sic]. Can you believe how closely we're paralleling Animal Farm??

Geez, I dunno... If I didn't have any money in my checking account, I had more debt than I could EVER pay off, I wouldn't look at borrowing another $150 million to battle sisyphean eco-woes.

But hey, we have a new crop of government educated subjects who think Socialism is the way to go.

Remember, it's all about "Change". And if you're lucky you'll have some left in your pockets when the government is done with you.

The whole "global warming" nonsense is a bogus creation of wacko nuts
who can't find anything else to stir up crap over. Scientists who previously had been eager to jump on their bandwagon have begun jumping ship since new, record low temperatures are being recorded in many places. Trouble is, the wacko left has so firmly commited itself to this idiocy that they can't possibly admit they were wrong, even if it ruins the economy of their country further. They absolutely rely on having legions of malcontents in order to maintain a constituency.

Very well stated. Have to spread the rep so couldn't give you points.

Precisely!! CO2 is good for the atmosphere. Burning rainforests and destroying the lungs of the planet will make us tougher creatures right? Who needs a diverse amount of flora and fauna anyway?

The evidence is everywhere but why should you care, you're probably old and going to be dead soon anyway. It's us younger people that are going to inherit you and your generations mistakes. Thanks guys

I'm not saying to completely dismantle our coal plants. I'm just wondering why so many people are fixated on coal, and adamantly refuse progressive change. I propose this, for all of you who are ok with coal forever and detest clean and green, I would like you to move within 5-10 miles downwind from a coal power plant or mountain top removal site. Prove to us wacky old liberals that we're crazy as you hack up blood and have 4 different forms of cancer.

Exactly where is this evidence of which you speak? On Al Gore's tv monitor? And, if CO2 isn't good for the atmosphere, who do plants rely on it so much? First it was carbon and sulfur emissions. They solved that problem so they had to come up with another "enemy of the earth", thus CO2. Now they want to harm our industry even further with rediculous over regulation. Do you think it will reduce CO2 one bit if they drive more industry to foreign countries? It will actually result in making it worse, because those countries have absolutely no regulation at all on industry. So, not only will it force more Americans into poverty, it will also actually make their imagined disaster worse.

Do you deliberately want to sound ignorant or is it just youth? Perhaps college should offer some classes in couth. Surely they offer some in the etiquette of debate.

You can also enroll as an adult student (which we never pick on, promise ) and take some environmental planning, environmental studies, living on earth courses, and biology. I've taken all within the last four years. How many have you taken? The definition of ignorant is unknowing and that is clearly what you are when it comes to environmental concern.

Glad you have taken environmental classes - we live them in every day work. There's a difference between being ignorant of a subject and acting ignorant - as in insulting people with statements such as "why should you care - you're probably old and going to be dead soon". Not the best way to win a debate.
