Looking for suggestions on summer housing at White Plains (Somers: apartment, leases)

My girlfriend and I am going to intern in NY this summer. She will work in Somers and I'm gonna work in Manhattan. We did some research, White Plains seems a very nice place to stay, and it's perfect for our commuting (she can drive and I can take trains).

Because we live in mid-west and there is no way we can visit the city before we start our internship, we are planning to start our apartment hunting after we are there (late May, maybe stay in a hotel for a few days).

My question is, is this a wise thing to do? Is it too late to find a decent apartment in WP at that time? Or we should try our luck by signing a lease remotely?

Our budget is about $2000 per mo to cover everything for a studio or 1br. Is there any suggestions for us?

Start looking now. If you start looking when you get here, you'll spend much more than a few days in a hotel. Short term or month to month leases are very hard to find... most places want you to sign at least a 1 year lease.
