I thought I'd scout Westchester for a year, so I can decide between Fairfield & Westchester counties on purchasing a home. I'm zoning in on a cool place in Rye close to the beach.
How's the daily pre-8am parking situation in either Rye or Harrison metro north stations? Any inside info?

If you put yourself on the list for Rye your grandkids will get a spot. Sort of like Giant tickets used to be before PSLs.

Not sure about Harrison.
I'm already on the lists of Greenwich, Noroton and Darien
Figured Rye should be similar. I am wondering about some cheap form of daily parking in some nearby lot. I get to park in Darien/Noroton for 3 bucks a day, the cheapest in the whole area.
Harrison has some meters, so if you time it correctly, you could get a metered spot. Port Chester may be the best bet for parking outside of the LAZ-operated MNRR lot, but I would venture that it's not as inexpensive as $3/day. I am so rarely in Port Chester, that outside of the complex with the movie theater, I am at a loss as to what to recommend for train parking.

There's the man. Thanks, BMWguy. I had a feeling no place else would give it away for three bucks. I could still drive all the way up to Noroton, park there and go to work, for my gym is right next to the station and it's become a habit. It's going to be a lot of work though.
Have you been on the 95 going through Stamford during rush hour? If you work off-hours it could work, but on the ride home anything after 3pm is dicey. Once you pass Byram you are home free, though, on the way back.
Rye is tough for parking, and Port Chester local traffic is a nightmare at times. I'd use Harrison. When we checked last year it was open. Generally around here, meters are about $5+ a day. Sometimes you also have to pay about $50 for the right to use the meters, depending on the lots.
You'll want to make sure that if you are near the beach in Rye, you aren't in a flood zone. Also know that you cannot park on any public street there between like May and November due to beach traffic, so make sure you have a big enough driveway for visitors.
It's a schlep, but you can take 287 to White Plains, and you can easily get a permit there right away. It may not be for the lot closest to the train though- I was in the Galleria west lot which was about a 2-5 minute walk to the train, depending on lights.
The good thing is the train from White Plains is its really fast to gct (30 mins), and trains run very often, so hopefully makes up for the drive.
Anywhere in Rye close to the beach isn't really ideal for walking. It can be done, but it's a trek.
