Mohegan Lake - Its a small section that is partly within the Town of Cortlandt and partly in the Town of Yorktown. Its mostly small lots near Routs 6 and 202, with larger lots in between. It has some very unique areas. the area around the lake is expensive, plus has the added lake tax for the Lake District which manages the lake. There are some cool historical areas like the Lexington Colony and the massive set aside land running next to Route 202 that is owned by the state to eventually connect the BEar Mountain Parkway to the Taconic Parkway. Depending on where you live, it either in the Lakeland or Yorktown school districts. Some this there are big differences between the two, but I see very little difference.
Somers - I know very little about somers, sorry.
Yorktown is a nice town, higher population density that Cortlandt and slightly higher taxes, but it has wonderful homes and neighborhoods. Its biggest issue is that it is far from the Metro North lines. Cortlandt and Somers are both much closer to the two lines in Northern Westchester. If that is not an issue, then its great. Yorktown is a big town, over 40,000 people. It has the area's mall (the JV Mall) in it, as well as two shopping coridors in Route 202 and Route 6. Less industrial zomes that Cortlandt and Somers, which tend to be near the train lines for obvious reasons.
Cortlandt. This is where I call home, so I love it. Great towns, lots of small communities. The Town of cortlandt itself is HUGE in terms of area. , so the smaller areas within the town have different feels to it. To me, the best thing about cortlandt is that it has lower tax rates than the surrounding towns, two metro north stations (Croton and Cortlandt) plus nearby Peekskill and access to the River. I love the Hudson and we are down at the riverfront most weekend in the summer. There are movie nights at the river, festivals, music, fireworks and all sorts of fun.
All are nice, all have good and bad. Its a tough choice. Good luck.
