public school transportation in westchester towns (White Plains, Eastchester: renting, where to buy, school districts)

my family recently relocated to westchester and we're renting until we learn more about the area and decide where to buy. so far we really like rye and bronxville but were surprised to find that neither provide school bus transportation for the kids. are other towns in westchester like that? how do kids get to and from school when both parents work??
Most in southern Westchester don't bus. Scarsdale does if you are outside of their boundaries. Larchmont doesn't, parts of Mamaroneck might. You have to be a certain distance from the school to qualify, though, and since most of these towns are so small anyway, almost nobody qualifies.
Chappaqua busses. Others will surely know more.
Many schools are affiliated in some way with a private program that offers before and after care, but it comes at a cost. I would call the district office if you really love the town.
hmm...this is more challenging than i thought. so if you go the before and after care route, does the provider transport them to school or is the care onsite??
Most towns in Westchester do bus. Some don't. Many of the districts that are on the higher density side have no real need to bus.
The village to the south of me, Dobbs Ferry, supposedly has no busing because the school district was laid out to be one square mile, so everyone could walk. Whether most people actually walk I have no idea. I'm sure many do.
Seeing as there are so many kids going to the same place at the same time, it's pretty easy to have the kids either walk together or to carpool.

If you are looking in the Bronxville area, both Tuckahoe and Eastchester school districts bus their students K through 12. In the Tuckahoe School district, their before and after school care does not bus.
There are also private bus companies in Westchester. It is common for friends or neighbors to get together and contract with a company for transportation to the same school. This is also often a suggestion given by the private Westchester schools as well. My children attend a school that does not bus and most of the children are driven to/from school each day by a parent or caregiver. Some families use local cab services.

I live in Dobbs Ferry and am about 99% sure that Springhurst elementary has a bus service. You can check the website, if needed. I usually pass about 2-3 of the yellow school buses picking up children on my way to the train. I'm not sure about the high school age students though as most seem to either walk or drive - the HS is in a pretty central location to the town.
