Which by the way is the topic of this thread. So much for freedom of speech. Naturally I'm going to give it right back to them. Why are they so uptight if Westchester is such a wonderful place to live? I actually think that they are envious of those of us who have left as they are probably stuck there and do not want to be reminded of how miserable it really is for some people. Little do they realize it is people such as them that I'm so glad to be away from. Other than name calling they haven't proven me wrong.

Obviously political discussions will get heated. I get that, however I am a " Conservative political activist". Proud of my beliefs. Don't expect me to extoll the virtues of Progressive/Liberal social policies which played a large part for getting us to leave New York State and the Northeast.

As far as Arizona is concerned, we were not "sentenced" to live there. We are self employed, traveled throughout this great wonderful country and had the opportunity to live wherever we choose. We love the Southwest, Arizona in particular it is the place where we belong. Not only does it have some of the most spectacular scenery on the face of the earth but it is compatible with our political beliefs. The cost of living is low and the weather is beautiful year round. We have achieved a quality of life that we could only dream of had we stayed in New York. By the way the entire state is not a desert. Although the Sonoran Desert is our favorite place in Arizona. Words can't express how much we love it here. And yes I have posted on the Arizona forum albeit in a different tone. Oh, and the people are not uptight. It is rare to hear of anyone complaining about life in Arizona unless they're Liberal. Which fortunately there are not too many. There's nothing like the taste of freedom.
Tell us more about how you hate New York and liberals/progressives. You don't seem consumed by it at all.

Some interesting reading:

From the Huffington Post hardly a Conservative publication. Gee, I wonder what the most expensive states have in common? I thought Progressives are out there fighting for the middle class? I guess they're not succeeding in the states that they control.

Oh indeed I am. Fighting Progressivism/Liberalism/Socialism is a lifelong passion of mine. I shall continue. I thought Liberals admired social activism? And no I don't give up. After all Liberals are relentless in fighting for their pet causes. Why should I not have that same freedom?

Liberals are the worst.
It's just that they refuse to see that their policies are pushing the middle class further down the economic ladder in order to sustain a growing cycle of dependency. The importation of tens of millions of illegal invaders and allowing those who are already here to remain will only exacerbate the cycle. Soon the middle class will find themselves dependent on government, which is their goal. We will become like Greece or turn the entire country into Detroit. The money has to come from somewhere. There are just not enough wealthy people to go around without taxing them into oblivion. Even then it wouldn't be nearly enough. Besides where would the incentive be to create jobs? There would have to be forced labor in order to sustain society.

They do not believe in the United States as being a "Constitutional Republic" as it was originally founded. They believe that the "Constitution" is a living breathing document that they can legislate out of existence. The "Constitution" is there to constrain government while preserving individual liberties. Liberals view it as an impediment in their quest to turn us all into wards of the state in which they will have complete control over our lives. They feel that government is the answer to everything.

They want to take God out of everything. Take God out of the picture and we are no longer "endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights". For our "creator" is God according to those who wrote the preamble to "The Declaration of Independence" and "Bill of Rights". They could have wrote we are "endowed by our government with certain unalienable rights". But they didn't and for a very good reason.

Quote:
"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty".-- Thomas Jefferson
Unfortunately, government is composed of ruthless corrupt politicians who will lie, cheat, steal and prostitute themselves, bringing themselves down to the lowest common denominator for some crummy little political office. All political parties are guilty of this. I just can't for the life of me understand how so many can put their faith and trust in them. For the most part politicians are indeed out for themselves motivated by power and greed. People are being used as pawns in that quest. Yet Liberals are constantly demanding more government control over our lives. Sorry, no thank you.

Now let the name calling begin, that's all they've got.

When I read your post I think of an old out of touch John McCain running through the Arizona desert chasing after Mexicans you suspect to be illegal invaders stealing american jobs.

I hope Donald Trump one day decides to move to Arizona in order to join your cause. Unfortunately for us, he is wealthy enough to stay in NYC for a while.

The middle class in Westchester County would be considered affluent elsewhere. I don't think dependency is a concern of them.

I just think that leaving Westchester, to wherever, is an INDIVIDUAL decision. So many factors come into play, pros and cons about Westchester and pros and cons about your destination. in the end, we all make our individual decisions to stay or go and we all have our own reasons for doing so. I don't think I'm right or wrong for choosing to move to Charlote, NC because I thought I could improve my quality of life here. And I don't think anyone who chooses to stay in Westchester and pay the premium is wrong either. In the end, it's all choice, and we all have different goals and means.

I don't think there was a need to turn this thread into what it became. I think only 2 posts were in response to the OP.

Default A Newbie's Perspective

As someone who is coming TO Westchester, I think that it's good to think of it in the context of the reasons why people move TO Westchester.
  1. You have a current or new career in the New York area.
  2. You want to send your children to an excellent school.
  3. You want a reasonably suburban lifestyle close to a dynamic metropolitan city.
  4. You make enough money to afford to live there in the manner reasonably close to what you want.
  5. You have family in the area.

It seems like I will leave when any one of the five above factors fails sufficiently. I have lived in many places in the United States over my lifetime, and they span the spectrum in terms of political philosophies. I have never been motivated to move because of any conflict I have with them. It was always the interplay of the above; I moved for a career opportunity, to be closer to family, or for great schools, and I have never regretted it. We are fortunate to live in a great country with great people everywhere to make this feasible.

When my kids have finished school, and my career is winding down in a way that it pays me less money, it's certainly possible that Westchester County won't work for me and my wife. Then we might consider a move. If I lost my job and could not find a similarly-paying one, then we might HAVE to move. All because one of the factors above reduced the score of Westchester for me and my family.

Whether we lived in the West Coast, Midwest or East Coast (I've never lived in the South), we always found people to be nice, and we always enjoyed it and found moving away to be quite difficult and emotional. Each place seemed better than the last, and I believe that's because we're growing from the experience, not because the place is better.
