Which neighborhood around Eastchester (West.)? (New Rochelle, White Plains: rental, school, to live)

Hi all - I am a single nurse and taking a temp assignment at a school in the Eastchester area this fall. I would appreciate input on what areas may be suitable for me (and that offer short-term rental options, rooms or studios).

1. Short commute over everything else...I assume I'll be driving, but unsure if that's the best option.

2. Generally am a homebody on weekdays but appreciate an eclectic coffee shop or cafe, etc.; been called a "hippie" a time or two - I enjoy new culture and am very adaptable, just need a decent amount of safety as I'm alone often. Will be spending most of my weekends visiting family in Crown Heights/Manhattan.

3. Budget is about $1500 max, open to a room share or studio, prefer to live alone.

Would love ANY help as I know nothing about the area. Thanks so much

Eastchester, Tuckahoe, Bronxville, New Rochelle, Harrison and White Plains are all possibilities that are close by. $1500 may be hard. You should be able to find a studio in New Rochelle for $1500 - just stay east of the New England Thruway and the neighborhood should be fine.
