Sadly, racism is everywhere. It is not unique to Carmel.

What is racism did you encounter in Carmel?

I was leaning toward Carmel when I first started looking, but a commute to NYC would have been brutal (don't get me started on two-lane Route 6). White Plains won because of how easy it was to commute back and forth to the city.
