Considering moving with my family to one of these towns and I'd like to know the differences between the two. What life is like living there, the types of people, intensity of the schools, hearing planes etc... My husband will be working in White Plains so the train is not a factor. Moving from out of state with two tweens and want the transition to be as easy as possible.
The most important thing is to note which school districts you are looking at. Ignore mailing addresses. For someone from out of state, this concept may seem foreign. But for now, I am going to assume you are looking at Byram Hills SD vs. Chappaqua SD (the HS there is Horace Greeley so many people refer to it as such).
These districts, I think, are more similar than dissimilar, especially when viewed from someone out of state. Greeley is the bigger of the two HS, but the difference is not astronomical. Both have a fairly high secular Jewish population. I think the neighborhoods and housing stock would be more similar than dissimilar. Both HS are very highly regarded and more or less everyone is a "student". The hearing planes thing I think would never be an issue in Chappaqua, and is just a maybe in Armonk. But this is a very macro level issue - you need to look into the exact areas you are looking at and not rely on my general statements. But the main take away is that they are more similar than dissimilar and if you pick one I don't think you would ever think that you should have picked the other.
