My husband and I are considering buying a house in this area (Hickory Hill Drive/Prince Street) and we are wondering what is like? Are there issues with the proximity to Children's Village? We noticed some kids from Children's Village selling candy door to door recently and wondered how frequently that occurs and if there are problems with it. Are there issues with the very steep hills and twisty roads? Any notable problems with deer and ticks? Any positive or negative feedback about the area is very much appreciated!

All of Westchester has tick issues. It's part of living in the northeast.

Thank you for your response. I am aware, however, that tick issues are endemic to the northeast. I thought it was clear, though perhaps it was not, that I was asking if anyone familiar with the area has an impression about the severity of the tick problem there. I don't think this is an unreasonable question since the area is fairly wooded. My family members who live in Larchmont Woods and Bronxville Manor, for example, don't have much of a tick problem despite being in Westchester. They can't recall the last tick that they or their neighbors have seen so I do think there may be a discrepancy in how much one finds ticks in their backyard, even in the northeast.

There are definitely deer in the area though I have not heard of any cases of lyme disease in the area. Is something I hadn't really thought of to be honest.

As far as the twisty hills, Ardsley is great about plowing. However, since the area you are referring to is in Dobbs, I'm not as familiar. For the most part, if the house is on a hill and there is a place that people need to get to (such as Children's Village), it should be one of the first areas in the town to be plowed. That is an advantage of having a facility like Children's village in the area as opposed to living in an all residential neighborhood which is usually last on the list in terms of snow removal priority.

I don't think living by the Children's Village would bother me. My cousin lived in Hawthorne near another facility catering to at-risk young women and never had an issue. However, it is a very personal preference and you need to think of your own comfort level. I think that if there are issues that occur, they are probably within the walls of the facility and don't affect the surrounding neighborhood. I've not heard or read anything in the paper or online with regards to trouble from Children's Village.

Good Luck.
