Haha, again, there is a whole foods. its green life on merrimon right now but they are slowly transitioning over. Give it a year and it will be whole foods.
They have said that they are going to keep it as Greenlife. They do sell Whole Foods merchandise there now, but I think they said they are committed to keeping the name as Greenlife. IMO, Greenlife is way better than any Whole Foods. The only thing I would like to see brought to the Greenlife that WF has is that awesome pizza! That stuff is so good!
I have read several times that Ingles in Waynesville is sub par. This is a mystery, considering that the one in Murphy, NC is nice and the one in Hayesville, NC was just remodeled and is gorgeous.
Likewise, the one in Hiawassee, GA is decent and they are finishing up a remodel in Blairsville, GA that will make it the largest Ingles in Georgia.
Why has Waynesville been left out when it's so close to Asheville and gets so much tourism?
What would like to see built/developed here in the Asheville area?
I'd like to see the region develop a defined industrial/research area - whatever works. It should be develpped to attract the kind of businesses that have a future, like medical research and development, technology, or soemthing else along those lines.
This is such a nice place to work, live and play, it seems to me that a targeted effort to attract research, development and production business would provide benefits to the community and the companies willing to establish themselves in the region. An area with the appropriate facilities and access would need to be defined.
Certain tax benefits could be made available to attact the type of businesses desired. The region would be paid back in multiples with higher paying jobs and the monies spent in the communities.
I just wanted to know what kind of "fun" things you'd like to see here. The idea is to search your mind for something that you'd really like to do on a regular basis here in Asheville - Like a really cool water park. Now THAT I could go for (except in February - LOL)
You have to have the economic infrastructure to pay the bills which in turn will support the 'fun' things.
Stuff to attract the masses 'for fun' while it pays a pittance to employees is counter productive to economic growth of an area if the real jobs are still on the wish list.

I wasn't referring to the cosmetics of the building, inside or out...I suppose I should have used a term in lieu of "3rd world". My beef is the lack of quality of food, from meat to poultry to "fish", to lunch meat, etc.
The branded and even the PL boxed, canned stuff is ok; the "fresh" stuff is barely so-so, imo. I could not care less if it was a terminal; it's quality stuff I like, and Ing doesn't have it.
A Publix here, even with their slightly higher prices in my experience, would be excellent competition to Ing, imo.
Ohhhhh. I was wondering because there was a poster a while back who complained about the product selection in Waynesville being more limited than other Ingles.
As far as meat goes, I've noticed that the steaks at my Ingles have become more limited. They used to carry a line of Black Angus steaks that seem to have disappeared. On the other hand, they've expanded their seafood and some thicker cuts of meat that are more expensive.
This is one of the reasons I'm thinking so strongly about moving to Brevard. They have Poppies Market and I can get some quality alternative stuff there.
Do you ever shop the alternative places in Asheville, like Earth Fare? Or the Farmers Market?

I heard (somewhere - can't remember where) that Bob Ingles made a deal with the Publix folks that if they stayed out of NC then he would stay out of Florida.
Don't know the truth to that, it's just something I heard (I don't doubt it though )

That's a really interesting idea. Kind of something like RTP in the Raleigh area. Hmmmmm......
I could see it being centered around medicine definitely.
