Thought I'd start a new thread for those of us who like to do "road trips" for shopping in the WNC area generally, and for locals to post helpful information for relocating newcomers. Where to find what you need, and "retail therapy" as needed. Just conversation, not advertising.

Personally I have not been to Charlotte or anywhere east of Asheville in MANY years. If I want to do some serious shopping I always head west into TN or down south to GA, If you want outlet stores & specialty shops & no malls then head to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge & Seveirville. If you want bigger malls with better selection of shops & larger stores then head to Knoxville. If you want lots of outlet stores & large malls then head to Atlanta & other parts of North GA, Atlanta has everything you could ever want when it comes to shopping, Macy's, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Neman Marcus, Ikea, etc... Not only that but downtown Atlanta has so many great specialty shops, awesome food, & great hotels. Not to mention if you are bringing the family & the kids & husband have no desire to shop then they all can go to Six Flags, or the husband can go to any number of sports bars, Brass Pro Shop, Harley Davidson shops, plenty of specialty tool shops. You name it, Atlanta has it & it really isn't that much farther away than Charlotte. From where I live I can be in Atlanta or Charlotte in 3 hours or less, they are both the same driving distance from me, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge & Seveireville are all an hour drive from me & Knoxville is almost an hour & half drive.

There 'ya go .... my kinda' girl. I just came back from shopping for nice pottery at a few nice studios out past Brevard on 276. Funny, there were two school teachers from AVL in there because of no school.
