What does everyone think of Flat Rock?

I know it's just south of Hendersonville and I know the history, but what do you think of it as a place to live?

And how long does it take to drive to Asheville from Flat Rock?

Flat Rock is historic, very lovely area (not East Flat Rock though)... and very expensive. A bit on the snooty side imho. Everyone wants a Flat Rock zip code, what does that tell you.
Avg. home price inside Flat Rock village: $400,000.

Drive to Asheville, to downtown? 35 mins. Drive to Biltmore Park shopping center (Asheville address, really in Skyland) off I26? 25 mins. Drive to shopping in Biltmore Village/Asheville 25 mins.

Flat Rock IS in Henderson County.

Thanks for the answer.

Yes, I know it's in Henderson County. So what's the deal with east Flat Rock? Is it a bad area?

There are no singlewides in Flat Rock. No industrial, no auto body repair shops, no real or unreal signs. It only rains or snows in selected areas; and the golf course is always green. There are no golf courses in East Flat Rock.

QuilterChick... my parents live in Flat Rock, and it cracks me up that you say "it only rains or snows in selected areas" because my dad ALWAYS claims that the weather is nicer up there!

Anyway, I grew up in Hendersonville and then Flat Rock, and don't really differentiate the two in my mind very much. If you live in Flat Rock, you still do your grocery shopping and such in Hendersonville or even Asheville. Flat Rock is very cute though, I love little rainbow row and driving through "town."

Yes, Flat Rock is cute and quaint, and very historic and a pretty drive through, there really is no "town", and that is why out of state folks tend to ask about various areas. I was once asked by a client if there was a Home Depot in Flat Rock. The OP wanted to know the differences between FR and East FR. Zoning and real estate prices.

so what would you say the acceptance of diversity is in Flat Rock? And how are the schools in Henderson County? is there a class distinction between income, culture, race, etc. . .?
