We are visiting Blowing Rock for the first time in a couple of weeks and would love some restaurant suggestions. We are staying in a cabin between Blowing Rock and Boone, will be at Tweetsie one day, grandfather Mtn one day and downtown Blowing Rock another. We are traveling with 4 kids, my inlaws, and my husband and I. The places need to accommodate a table of 8 and be family-friendly (the kids are really adventurous eaters and know how to act at a restaurant ). Ideas?

What kind of food do you like? I don't know Blowing Rock well, but I love Coyote Kitchen in Boone ("southwest Caribbean soul food"). They're not huge, but should be able to accommodate your family. Great food, good people, definitely family-friendly.

Almost any place in Blowing Rock is well outside of my price range unless I'm with friends. Woodland's BBQ is popular though personally I've had better BBQ. I've eaten at Knight's on Main several times and have never been disappointed. Again, anything in BR is really pricey!

In Boone, Pepper's is a good place, inexpensive family fare and I've not ever had a bad meal there either. There is a steak place in Boone called The Peddler that has a good rep, but the one time I ate there the meal was pretty awful. I had the Prime Rib and it was really bad . . . pre-cooked and injected . . . bleh. from what I've heard the steaks are better. Makoto's Japanese steakhouse is good (and FUN) and on the Blowing Rock side of Boone. There are all the usual chain style restaurants too.

Let me know if you're interested in attending Worship while you're here. I'm kinda an expert on churches around here. ;-)

Enjoy your trip!

Tracey

Well, the Dan'l Boone Inn is the one I'd tell someone to go to if they wanted real southern food and a fun experience because its family style dinning. Its a bit north in Boone though.
