Boone is a nothing city. Its a college town. Asheville is a real city. ASU is a better U than UNC Asheville, but there is no comparison between the towns. Asheville is a great town. Boone is kind of tacky, but with a nice university. Asheville is real city with all age groups, real businesses and all that.

That's largely true, though UNCA isn't bad for what it is. Without ASU Boone would be another Morganton or Wilkesboro. Asheville isn't entirely dependent on the school.
