Because there are places out there that have much more jobs in the field than WNC (or nearby) has. I'm thinking North.

I have applied to various jobs with the NPS/BLM/FS in WY, CO, and MT for the past 3 years but only got one phone interview and then she came back and said, oh sorry, we hired someone who was already out here.

But then I got a job near greenville sc doing fish and wildlife research. Its suppose to last at least 2 years and then who knows. Its good experience though and my supervisor used to work with the fish and wildlife service and he said he would do his best to get me in after my term with him is over. I'd love to eventually head out west for a bit. I don't think I'd want to live there forever, but I'd like the experience. I do know I could happily live in WNC working for the parkway or similar forever though. Just gotta see what life has planned right? Good luck to you!

Oh calm down, I wasn't insulting you, and nobody is going to know you're a girl unless you put something in your user name that implies it. Or unless you say in every post "I'm a girl". Also, I didn't discard your opinion, I took it at face value. I am willing to get out on the roads a bit earlier and deal with some slop in order to get to class. I went to high school in Massachusetts, where there is no such thing as "class canceled for snow", well unless there's a NorEaster that is. So believe me, I understand the logistics of driving in snow and how it slows everything down. Snow and cooler summers are the big reasons (outside of Appalachian itself and the social potential) that I want to move to Boone.

Right now, I am looking at Vilas, Valle Crucis, Blowing Rock, Bamboo, and Sands. I have been seeing some listings in most of those towns that I could certainly afford. Also, there's the option of moving in with one or two people whose roommate has left an empty spot for a newcomer in the house. There are a ton of those, and what's nice is I live close enough to meet them before agreeing to live with them. I've heard of quite a few of those type of agreements going well, so I'm open to that too. Seems like a lot of App kids live in really cool houses in the woods, which is encouraging.
