Both Ingle's and Walmart have the best prices for the products and services they provide. Ingle's may be higher than Walmart, but I gladly pay and invest in quality products, necessary services, delicious fresh foods, and customer service.
Ingle's Markets #23 on Barber Boulevard is to be expanding in the near future. Ingle's has plans to add a drive through pharmacy and gas station onsite. Initial expansions plans included a garden center, which has been removed.
I do a good portion of the groc shopping, and feel that both have their slight benefits, on some items, sometimes...if that sounds nondeclarative it's because no one could say that the local WalmartNation beats Ingles, or vice versa.
If one is penny pinching for a given basket of stuff, WM may beat Ingles slightly, but this kind of comparo is fraught with mkting jive based on picking a dozen items on a given day...
KN above may have a slight motive in the 'Ingles debate' I suspect, and I am not nearly as sanguine about Ingles as that poster; the Waynesville Ingles is just OK, with the Hazelwood area Ingles being barely OK. The local Walmart, while better than it's previous incarnation here, is about on par with the Ingles in terms of overall cosmetics, imo.

I'll add at least 50 cts. to your post above. I usually do a large grocery shopping once or twice a month at WalMart here in Hendersonville and save a decent amount, but I only buy packaged items and name brand items, freezer items, packaged salad mix, celery etc., no produce or deli items. I don't buy any meat at WM. Only at Fresh Market or Ingles on sale. The rest of the time, I make a quick run to Ingles in Mills River to "fill in". I would estimate that the Waynesville stores would be similar to the prices below.
At Ingles in Mills River yesterday: Laughing Cow cream cheese: $4.99 !! Same exact item at WalMart: $2.78. Pepperidge Farm or Arnold's bread: WalMart: $2.89 Ingles: $4.28
An average large shopping trip at Ingles for me if I bought everything there would be approx. $150/$160. Yesterday at WalMart: $96.00 Sometimes I'll make a run down to Publix in Traveler's Rest SC for my Publix "fix". And those numbers are for a "family of one". Me.
On any canned items, baby food, drinks and such you are likely going to find it cheaper at Wal-Mart. I wouldn't get any meat at Wal-Mart though, unless it was prepackaged.
