Was Asheville colder than you thought after you moved there? (February weather)

This thread will probably date fast, but it's February, and it would make sense to talk about the Winter weather while its still Winter.

For the natives, the thread title might not make sense. But, for everyone else moving from wherever else, how was the reality vs the perception of Winter weather for Asheville?

I've lived here almost 23 years. The weather was very mild for many of those years and there were several where we had extreme cold snaps. They never last all that long though. Overall, I think the cold snaps are becoming more frequent but weather patterns are changing all over the country.

I just moved here from California during the cold snap early last month. I knew it was going to be colder, but I didn't realize how cold it would actually feel. Being that I'm used to 60-80 degree weather year round, it definitely took a few weeks to acclimatize to. I am thankful I don't live in the Northeast though, those poor souls are getting slammed up there. I know it's only mid February, but I'm already wishing for spring and the green to come back.

I am more worried about how humid it gets during the summer, I've never experienced that before.

I don't think this has been a particularly cold winter, has it? It's been pretty mild here in the piedmont compared to last year. Gonna be cold tonight, though.

Slimin, I'm already seeing daffodils popping up as well as crocuses. Spring weather will arrive before you know it. As for humidity, I grew up in Northern Illinois. I'll take Asheville weather any day. People complain about the humidity here but I honestly don't notice it. We rarely run our a/c in the summer

FL's humidity is the worst. I envy you not having to run your AC!!!!

Was on very little last summer. Our property is heavily forested and we seem to get a lot of breeze up here.

I moved here from Northern Kentucky and I have been enjoying the winter weather much more here. It is definitely sunnier here, unlike there where it's overcast for weeks at a time. Plus it can be anywhere up to 20 degrees warmer here on any given day. Some days have been the same temp or a little colder here than there, but those have been relatively few so far.

One thing that strikes me is how windy it has been this winter. I don't know if that's considered normal or not.

But I actually don't mind the cold so much. As long as the sun is out I am happy.
