Asheville VA Medical Center and the Area ? (homes, neighborhoods)

I am Retired military and a current employee with the VA. My wife and I are looking to relocate to the Asheville area eventually.

What's are some nice middle class neighborhoods within 10 miles or so from the VA ? Our budget may allow up to $150k for housing.

We intend to retire in that area so shopping and other services would have to be close by.

That's a very tight budget, I'm not sure that you will find anything close to your price point in Asheville.

I've searched several realtor sites and there is actually plenty in that range.....but.... not in real desirable locations and/or too isolated (>10 miles away from the VA) for what we are seeking.

Of course there are plenty rundown fixer uppers that are grossly overpriced as well. Many on the realtor sites for a very long time. I'm sure the neighbors are pleased with those homes rotting away in their neighborhoods.

It would be helpful if you can combine your questions into one thread under one subject. You may think that some housing is grossly overpriced. You may be coming from an area where $180K is average. Average in the area you are searching is in the mid to high $200's. That is why I said in reply to your other post, you will need to get at least 25 miles outside of Asheville.
