Would appreciate comments regarding Black Mountain.

Appears to be a vibrant healthy community. Not looking for much. Just a 3/2 on a nice lot. Safe. Good grocery stores. No whack jobs for neighbors.

Hope to visit area soon.

I would choose Hendersonville/Flat Rock over Black Mountain. More shopping, more restaurants, town is more vibrant and it is close to both Asheville and Greenville.

roadpony - Did that, did not get a lot.

mlhm5 - Yes, Hendersonville is also in my search.

Need the scoop on Black Mountain.

Is it a nice safe little town.

Yes, the crime rate is very low, about one-third of the national average.

The only negative comments I've heard about Black Mountain is that it might be too touristy for some folks.

I love it, have family there and owned property there for many years. That being said, I don't think your real estate money goes a long way in Black Mountain due to high demand. Crime in BM is almost all property and drug-related and is probably no worse than anywhere else. As far as "whack jobs", an entertaining new feature of the weekly Black Mountain News is a front page series on new arrivals in town, all of whom seem to be wandering souls in search for their place on the karmic wheel. At least the town has a constant new stream of yoga instructors, potters, philosophers and eco-gardeners to buy up all of the property for sale.
