I am thinking about purchasing into cullowhee river club just out of Sylva nc. I am concerned about what I am hearing about the crime I. Sylva should I be concerned? Cullowhee river club is about 5 min. Out of town and looks like it is a well planned community. I think it will be good investment and in about 5 yrs. My wife and I may move there. I don't think there are to many places where you can have a house next to the river with a mild climate such as this. How's the humidity by the way?

I'm also curious if crime is an issue here. I didn't think so with the research I've done, but maybe I missed something? I did see about a recent shooting near the college, but maybe it was just an isolated incident?

You made me curious. Doing a mapquest directions access it seems like the Cullowhee River Club is an hour outside of Sylva. Have you checked that out?

The Cullowhee River Club that I am slightly familiar with is < 20 mins to Dillsboro and ~ 20+ to Sylva...

Crime? Don't live there, but 'crime' in our smaller western NC towns/outlying areas is generally passion crimes or people addicted trying to smash and grab, to support their addictions.

Imo, the 'crime reporting sites' for smaller towns and esp 'areas' are fiction or bad info.

Nearly everyone I know, male or female, is packing and I have never had an uncomfortable moment in 17 years here, from a former metro NewYawk person.

Humidity? Western NC is a temperate rain forest in many parts, and in summer with lots of rain it can become humid.

Autumn is often the most dry season. If one is close to a body of water, eg river, humidity is a function of local clime.
