I was out on my daily morning trudge up/around our mtn this morning and felt/heard nothing...
My wife heard our front steps/front deck walkway making 'noises' and thought our bear had returned, or that I had taken a short time walk.

Other than that, nothing up here on our ridge at ~5,000 ft on Eagles Nest Mtn, overlooking Waynesville.

Many of our friends down the mtn at lower elevations did report considerable movement and sounds.

I get the New Madrid fault(s) lines. Otoh, there are 50+ recorded quakes daily on the planet, so I am not wringing my hands.
GL, mD

Alleghany County/town of Sparta has declared state of emergency as of 5pm...there has been some structural damage and road damage. More aftershocks in 3.0 to 4.0 range expected over next week or so..4% chance of one 5.1 or greater.

Hickory NC here .... about 50 miles south the epicenter.

I was sitting at this very computer. House started shaking. Reminded me of an out of balance washing machine vibrating. You could hear it, a rumble, kind of like a train in the distance. The monitors on my desk shook a little. Not exactly sure of the duration but my best guess is 10 to 15 seconds.

All of it was mild and I was not sure just what it was at first. Within minutes the quake was confirmed on the Internet.

It was certainly enough to get your attention but not so much as to be scary.
