Hey everyone,

I'm a certified lurker on this forum, having five posts in 10 years. I moved to WNC in 2018 after living in Raleigh for 14 years. One of the things that I'm realizing I took massively for granted was the greenway system in Raleigh. One of the reasons I moved out to WNC was that it has awesome (recreational) bike riding, but you can't actually use a bike for most transportation because the roads are so nuts. I see that they recently finished the greenway out near the French Broad River park, and got to thinking--is there more to come?

So with that in mind, I did some googling and found this master plan:
https://www.buncombecounty.org/governing/depts/parks/greenways.aspx

There's also this awesome map from 2012 on there that literally has greenways going everywhere I'd want to go:
https://www.buncombecounty.org/commo...y-overview.pdf

So does anyone have any inside info on where in the process Buncombe county is with this? Do we think that something like this will actually happen?

They have been talking about this for 15 yrs or so now. Little has been done. It’s pretty disheartening. My in-laws live in Cary and every time I visit I love running there. I can be on a greenway right out their neighborhood and then run any which way and get a pretty run. The lack of any kind of public parks or amenities here is definitely shortsighted. Especially this year when even lesser known trails have been swamped with tourists. It would be nice to have places to walk in town that carter to locals.
