I'm here in Phoenix AZ and want to get out of this hell hole and I'm retired and I'm thinking about OKC or Wichita so I can afford a house. Wichita seems to have a greener landscape which I like. They have basements which I think is great, less people, nice parks and I think I can get more for my money. I have a couple of cousins in OKC but they’re not that close. I have no immediate family and no friends. So I just want to live an easy life and try to make new friends. I've been to both places but I don't know where to buy for $135K. I've looked all over the US but these 2 places caught my eye.

There is an old OKC vs Wichita thread in the OKC forum but keep in mind you'll have a lot of pro OKC people that really don't know much about Wichita. I grew up in OKC and live in Wichita. Really, there isn't a huge difference. OKC is about three times bigger but Wichita has most of what OKC has, just on a smaller scale. With OKC you get a few big city amenities like NBA. What do you mean by Wichita being greener? Environmentally friendly or terrain? Either way, there isn't a huge difference in both. Both can be green and lush in the spring, and both were burned to a crisp last summer. If you are buying a home in Kansas, you have what are called special taxes which can add a little to your monthly expenses. Usually every state has a way to get your money. You won't find basements in OKC but here almost all homes have them. I find that most things are a trade off for each state. For your price range you can probably get a house with an unfinished basement and fiber cement siding. In OKC you won't get the basement but maybe a bigger yard, additional bedroom and all brick or stone. OKC doesn't have bad traffic, but Wichita is a breeze to get around. In OKC you go to Tulsa or Dallas to get away. In Wichita you go to OKC or Kansas City for a day trip. Like I said earlier, there really isn't a huge difference between the two. OKC has a better economy right now, but depending on your field of work, that might not impact you. Good luck deciding.
