WILLISTON, N.D. — When Joey Scott arrived here recently from Montana, he had no trouble finding work — he signed almost immediately with a company working to drill in the oil fields. But finding housing was another matter.

Yes, I saw this also. Pretty sad...but find it very interesting that everyone in the video said they have no regrets and are planning on sticking it out...pretty upbeat considering their housing situation. But like a couple of them said... they have jobs, money...which is more than they had back where they came from. Hope the housing situation gets better for them all.

Hmm, nice find. Yes, it's very sad, but it sounds like most of the people interviewed are glad they are where they are. Like Roloff said, I really hope the housing improves. No one should have to live in a hotel or worse just to get by.

Eventually housing will follow.

Many towns ,in other states, have ghost towns scattered around.

They quickly built for the "boom" and when the " bust" came they turned into ghost towns with deserted houses.

It won't happen to this " bust" ?

Don't be so sure.

Could be, but I doubt we'll see $30/barrel oil again anytime soon, especially with Asian growth, Mid-East instability, and a jejune president removing many areas from exploration and drilling. After living in the oil patch, having many friends who are petro. engineers and geologists, and worked as a consultant for the energy industry, I've learned that moving around is pretty much the norm in the oil industry anyways.

I agree with wondertrev and Sundance on this one...yes, oil priced could go up or down, but kinda doubt they will drop to a "bust" level. The situation in North Dakota is turning out to be pretty stable considering the Bakken and Sanish 3Forks is a rare find in the United States. They have pretty much figured out how to tap this oil, so the cost to drill in the Bakken and Sanish 3 Forks is getting cheaper and cheaper...and the risks to drill in these formations is not as risky as other plays. As long as oil stays in a comfortable range...they will keep drilling. The BUST in the 80's happened because the cost to drill in ND was so expensive and very risky. Time will tell I guess.

This just shows the positive future for North Dakota (I know at this point it may not seem like that). Good for ND, you guys deserve it.

North Dakota will be certainly one of the fastest-growing state in the next 10 years, it's really surprising. This place is very promising.
