I have to agree with notmuch69. Marshfield is a nice small town without crime and good schools. The "city in the center" is not too far from anything. A three hour drive will get you to Milwaukee or Minneapolis. It's worth checking out.

Two downsides... The lack of water nearby. The city is built around two railroads (still operable) and of course the Marshfield Clinic. The city probably wouldn't exist without the two. The other... the inability to attract and keep new businesses. But it's still growing slowly regardless.

Although I haven't been there in some time, Stevens Point had a lot of things going for it. On the one hand, it's a very progressive town with a good college. On the other, it's an old Polish town, with lots of links to the old country and its historic culture.

If you want healthcare you'd be silly to pick somewhere other then Marshfield in these circumstances. Botanical Gardens and Jurustic Park are to hidden tourist gems just north of the town. Mosinee would be a good choice if you dont mind the smell of paper mills

This sounds appealing.

We spent the last week helping a family from Maine move to Fort Atkinson. What a nice town. They have been looking all over WI for the past 3 months. His brother moved here from Maine last year and loves it. The economy in Maine has really stalled and they wanted out.
We also looked at Lake Mills. They were torn between the 2 but fell in love with a house in Fort Atkinson. I want to go back to both and spend some more time.
