To each their own but I don't buy it. I lived in NE Illinois, major metropolitan area where all the towns run together. Every now and then I'd get the vibe about being perpetually single, never married, none of their business and I didn't let it bother me.

I don't care where you live, what state, people have attitudes for whatever reason, its not the state, its the individuals and influences in their lives that formed their opinions.

I can tell of many ignorant examples of how you are suppose to dress and act to avoid being suspected of "gay", or as many still call it, "*****". Even a young man interested in acting and dance and show business was sure to mean gayness in Wisconsin!
The happiest moment in my life was on Highway 29 traveling West with Green Bay's smoke stacks and church steeples in my rear view mirror. I've since read stories of other media people exiting Wisconsin. One of which was a successful female TV anchor in Minneapolis. She wrote of her days in Green Bay and when the call came from Minneapolis she and the kids were in the van heading West on highway 29 and they cheered in unison, "Were Out, Were OUT OF HERE!" That's a true story but I won't name anyone you'll have to research more on your own.
Ahhh c'mon MPLS v Greenbay...completely different vibe! Nothing surprising about that.

WI and MN are damn near identical. I highly doubt that once you cross the Mississippi River you suddenly enter a magical, progressive, liberal utopia. You're completely full of it.

Yeah, c'mon. Milwaukee has had how many socialist mayors? and Madison may as well sell "I hugged a tree and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" t-shirts

Politically speaking, for those of you here who have never lived on the West Coast, you can't possibly know how different it is here in the midwest.

California, Oregon and Washington are SO liberal, almost to the point of deviance (think San Francisco here). So, coming to a state like Wisconsin can be quite a shock (if you're a liberal). Being the moderate that I am, it's kind of refrershing to be out of that liberal hysteria I used to live in. I rather like the political undertones in the midwest.

But see here again this is somewhat generalized. I used to live in the central valley of Ca which is known for being conservative.

That's interesting that you say the Central Valley is known for being conservative. From what I know of the area, there are a LOT of illegal immigrants living and working there, and the overall political tones lean toward being more liberal in that the citizens of the central valley want to provide sanctuary and free social services to the illegal immigrants.

I guess it's really all about when you were there and who you talk to.

Oh I see your point there, but yes I've often seen my observation noted, I mean many, many times. You know how the central valley gets a bad rap right? Lots of times it's commented about all the rednecks in those areas.

I am so unhappy here, the weather sucks and there is nothing to do. The highlight of the summer seems to be an airshow and a country drunk-a-thon.
I am hoping to sell my house in the Spring and move back to the West Coast where I am from. I will never leave again once I get home.

Flat, Hot in summer, Frigid and buried in snow in winter, no tall trees, no fresh seafood, nothing to do.

If you are not Catholic or Lutheran forget finding a nice church.

Augghhhh!!!!

Yes, by all means, leave as soon as humanly possible.
Some of your caricatures of this state are absurd, and show that you didn't get out and see much of it.
I am also originally from the west coast (Calif.) and would *never* choose Calif. over Wisc. I don't get your "hate Wisconsin, love west coast" schtick, but maybe it's just a lesbian thing.
