Unbelievable. This kind of thing should be illegal, regardless of the size of the company.

Some corporate rats take all humanity out of business. It is literally how they are programmed in B-School.

What Business school teaches this?

Also, the company has less than 50 workers, hmmm. That is the only reason this man had no recourse. if it had been a larger company they would have had more trouble trying to get rid of him.

If he is not there to work when the business NEEDS him to deal with clients then I don't see a problem with firing him.

If a bank is open from 9am - 4pm for instance, why should an employer pay someone to work during hours when the business is not even open.

Jesus Christ. Heads up, you do not fire the husband when the wife is dying, got it? Its bad business, it's bad for your business. Very very bad PR. The name of the company is out there and most likely will lose plenty of business. I hope they sink like a rock, they earned it.

Well that boss cost them some business I am very sure. Word like this spreads like wildfire. They'd better get someone in there to do damage control-because right now their reputation is in the tank. Personally-I'd not do business with a firm that did this-I'd find someone else to take my business. What a bunch of *******s.
