Advertisements

I saw a job posting today that had this listed at the bottom of the job ad

"THIS A TEMPORARY POSITION WHICH LAST FOR 6 MONTHS AND YOU 40 HOURS A WEEK"

This is beyond slimy because they want to use someone for 6 months and not pay any benefits and once the six months is up then say GOODBYE and then post another ad like that in a couple of months. But this employer knows they can get away with it because so many people are looking for work and is willing to take anything. No company should be advertising a job like this since they can just go through a agency.

This is what you call SLIME at the highest level

Or they have a special project, someone out on maternity leave, etc. and only need someone for 6 months.

And pretty sure they still have to pay benefits, unless they make it a contract position - which you should know since you claim to be in that field. You know, the whole affordable care act?

It's a temporary job just like any other. They have been around for many decades. As always, the viewer has the option to disregard the ad and look elsewhere. How do you know the hourly compensation is not slightly higher to offset the lack of benefits? Plenty of high paid professionals like engineers and IT workers take temp opportunities to the tune of $50-$80/hr. Just because they are working temp jobs without benefits doesn't mean they are underpaid or being taken advantage of. More than likely, they are just working on various projects that will conclude at the end of a set schedule. No sense buying the cow if you just need a gallon of milk.

What is clear however is you are well on your way to spawning another useless 40 page thread that will inevitably be closed after extensive bickering. Have at it.

That pretty much is going on with alot of the companies around here. A local manufacturer is hiring - great - but there is not one person that they have kept for more than 89 days - 90 is the amount of time needed to get benefits and join the union.

Well that means they should deal with a employment agency

Well, its better that they hire someone who clearly knows before even applying that its a temp position. I can almost guarantee some companies hire full time workers as "permanent" but let them go when a project or whatever is complete.

They don't want to. Why do you care what they do?

Why? So they can pay the person less so they can cover the agency expense?
