Boggled or not, it's a real issue. If you're over about 20, American society expects you to be doing something.
Taking time off for a particular reason is socially acceptable. Going to college, writing a novel or caring for Grandma is fine. Sitting around playing video games for 2 years isn't. Life's not fair.
